Before you proceed on finding the perfect keyword for your web page, you must already came up with a topic or niche that you want to write about and publish on your webpage or blog. If your website is about “raising teens”, that’s where you start with your keyword research. Keep it in mind and proceed.
1. Go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
2. Type in your chosen topic or keyword and then, click on search.

On the left panel of your screen, you will find tools you can use to maximize your research. You may use them if you need to, but what I strongly recommend is to make sure that “Broad” under Match Type is ticked. A broad match includes synonyms and related words. This is used if you haven’t decided on anything yet, but your main topic. Exact match will only include the search volume for your keyword idea. While Phrase match includes all terms that include the whole phrase which is commonly used by advanced users looking for long tail keywords.
3. After you click on search, the tool returns with the following information :
The Competition column is the rate of advertisers bidding for those keywords. If you are planning to put ads on your blog to earn money, this data can help you whether to pursue a keyword or come up with something else.
The Global Monthly Search Column is the average number of queries that Internet users use a particular keyword for their search worldwide.
The Local Monthly Search is the average number of queries that Internet users use a particular keyword for their search locally if you have specified a country or language on the upper portion of the tool.

Below your main keyword are related words or ideas that you may consider using on different pages on your website. You may also use them if in case your main keyword doesn’t show any result, which goes to show that it is not being used significantly and no advertiser is bidding for that keyword.
What you see on your screen is just the first page of the result. What most people, who use Google tool, don’t realize is that there are more related keywords on the back of what they initially see. In line with “Keyword ideas”, on the right hand side of your screen are the pages of more results. It’s important that you check them out because those hidden key phrases could be your gold mine.
4. If you look at the result above, you would notice that “raising teens” doesn’t show much. So we will try to use other keywords such as “parenting teenagers”.
Pull up another tab and go to google.com. Inside the search box, type in the words “parenting teenagers”.

You will find that there are 22.5 million web pages that match our keywords.
5. Analyze your data
“Parenting teenagers” is being searched on an average of 14,800 times globally. It shows a good number of advertisers as compared to other related keywords. And there are 22.5 million web pages across Google that use the same words on their website.
6. Do the same things with the other keywords on the list until you find your perfect keyword. A perfect keyword is one that is being searched significantly. Anything above 8,000 on global search is a good one. There should be enough advertisers bidding for it and the number of web pages from Google search result should be the lowest among your final list.
When searching for keywords, your focus should be on finding the niche keywords or market that others haven’t found yet and use them across your website. It is the secret to any successful online business. So take the time to look for it. Once you find it, you will soon find your website on the first page of Google search and you will be grateful that you took the time.
