Some people will call this a sneeze page. This is a page that you create as a strategy to help point people to other pages deeper into your blog. It is very useful if you have a blog with hundreds or more pages published that make your blog a bit difficult to navigate fully. Do not let your pages to pile up to thousands of posts that get archived everyday, which kills their potential in some way. Most blogs just highlight the recent posts you have made while dropping the rest into the archives section. Why not show off those posts in the archives using a sneeze page? Here are a few benefits you are going to gain from it.
i) Good for SEO: Whereas search engines majorly look at the links that point to your posts from outside your blog, a sneeze page will help you to link your older posts internally. This also helps with SEO and can make your article rank a point higher on the search engines.
ii) Make Your Blog Sticky: A reader who is looking for information will land on your blog, but they will not just leave after reading the first post they find if you have more captivating articles. Although it is hard to tell whether a pointer page made your reader read more related posts on your blog, there are chances that it will improve the time spent by unique readers on your blog.
iii) Makes Your Older Posts More Visible: Older posts took you time and effort to write. They are not really meant for the archives. Therefore, create a sneeze page that you can share on every post so that when a user clicks on it, they are landed on the sneeze page and can therefore see other posts that are not on the home page.
Whereas pointer pages are a great way of displaying your content in entirety, being creative enough when creating them improves their utility. One way of doing it is to make sneeze pages that base on the themes of your blog. It is meaningless to make a sneeze page that covers all the themes that you touch on.
You can also focus on making sneeze pages according to the timeline of your posts. This type is important only if you have highly narrowed down your blog to something very specific. For instance, if your blog is about pregnancy, you can create pointer pages that highlight the various stages of pregnancy. You will notice this kind of pointer page is more useful if you are dealing with topics that flow in stages that follow each other.
You could also do a retro sneeze page that will highlight all the posts you did at a certain time back, say one year or six months back. The point is for you to become creative enough and make the pages of your blog maneuverable. Finally, promote your sneeze page just like any other important blog post.
