When it comes to search engine optimization, link building could be the most difficult and important task you need to take if you want to make it big in the online business industry. What link building strategies do successful bloggers or website owners do to get a link valued by search engines? Let’s look at the ways:
1. Link Love Posts
Collect and share other people’s content. Who among you is not familiar with copyblogger? If you would try to observe the site, you won’t find a single post that doesn’t link out to other websites. And if you do, look at the bottom of the page and you will find the number of sites linking to that page. It’s a great strategy that works both ways. Copyblogger shares its importance to other websites while it gains more leverage with search engines by attracting sites to linking back to them. Arts & Letters Daily is all about sharing other website’s content. Drudge Report uses the same strategy but kept itself to be the first to know about the latest news or story.
When you collect and share stories, readers are enticed to follow you to see what you have to share next. It helps you build a loyal audience and at the same time creates a link back from the site you are linking to. When a publisher notices that you have linked out and sends traffic to them, they will visit your site. And if they find your site interesting, chances are; they will link back (copyblogger model).
2. Target related businesses
If your website is about carpet cleaning services, look for websites within the same industry. You can join Business Better Bureau and local chamber of commerce. Once you become a member, they will link back to you.
You can also send email to business partners and let them know that you are linking to them and see if they can offer the same to complement each other.
3. Testimonials and opinions
Asking an expert for their opinion is a great way to build a relationship. For example, you are writing about what successful travel bloggers do to make money online, you can look for successful travel bloggers and ask for their stories. Make it known that you intend to publish it giving credit to their websites.
Usually, bloggers link back when approached this way, although not all of them. If you asked opinions from 10 experts and only two of them links back, I believe that the strategy is still a success. Remember, these are authority sites linking to you and sharing their traffic.
4. Run a contest
Competition is always fun. With good promotion, you can start a contest asking bloggers to join you in exchange for a link or prize. You can maybe run a contest to write their own idea, opinion or concept on a particular topic. Let them know that it will be published on your site with links to credit them back at the bottom. You can set up a poll to ask visitors to vote and be the judge. Then make a big announcement for the winner.
Such strategy works both ways. The contestant gets a link from you. In order for them to win, they will ask their loyal audience and friends to vote for them. Of course, they will need to insert your URL on their own blog.
If you are serious about getting your website on top of search results, use the link building strategies I mentioned above. You can create your own and see how it works. And hopefully, you can share it with us.
